AdSense Category Blocking Feature Released

Google has announced the release of a new category blocking feature for AdSense following a successful period of beta testing.

AdSense Category Blocking Feature ReleasedThe application is available to users in all English-speaking countries and allows websites greater control over the commercials that appear on their pages.

Atul Bhandari, product manager for AdSense, said: "It helps you scalably prevent competitors' ads and ads that you might not find suitable for your audience from appearing on your site."

Under the new control system, it is possible to opt out from receiving commercials from 170 different categories, such as travel and jobs.

To give users a better idea of which ads to block and which to maintain, Google provides information on total impressions and revenue percentages for each category.

Earlier this week, Charise Wong, a representative of the Inside AdSense team, advised websites to optimise their pages so they can make the most use out of placement targeting opportunities.
